Harris County Sheriff Candidate, Carl Pittman, Meets With Sheriff Joe Arpaio To Discuss “Tent City” Jail System
Republican candidate for Harris County (TX) Sheriff, Carl Pittman, is meeting with Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County (AZ) on January 26th to tour his “tent city” jail facility and to discuss the standard operating policies of Sheriff Arpaio’s chain gang and tent jail programs.
Carl Pittman is no fan of the “status quo”. Pittman has become a vocal proponent for seeking out innovative and efficient practices in law enforcement that would help improve the Harris County Sheriff’s department.
Pittman states on his website, “As Sheriff I will continually look for the best practices in law enforcement around the country and the globe. If it works well we should consider it. I will absolutely demand that we vacate the thinking of “that’s how we’ve always done it.” That thinking may work well with an old family recipe, but in law enforcement we must constantly evolve in order to keep pace with the ever changing criminal element.”
Sheriff Joe Arpaio has become the epitome of tough and efficient law enforcement. He’s become famous for his “tent city” jail system, standard issue pink underwear for inmates, and his tough crack down on crime. Arpaio has drastically reduced the cost of housing inmates by building tent jails and minimizing superfluous jail amenities. He’s a consistently popular Sheriff and has won all of his re-elections by double digits.
Sheriff Arpaio is quoted as saying, “Too many jails in this country are just shy of being like hotels. That isn’t right. I keep saying, ‘People shouldn’t live better in jail than they do on the outside.’ Here in my jails, they don’t.”
Carl Pittman will be speaking about his meeting with Sheriff Arpaio and his future plans for the Harris County Sheriff’s Department at his fundraising dinner February 5th at Steamboat House Restaurant.
