On Monday March 21st the elected Republicans that serve “we the people” in Austin started the debate on SB 14 , the Voter ID bill. As we all know, Voter ID is a must for all of us in Texas if we are going to keep the integrity of our voting system.
The Anti-Integrity Democrats led by Rep. Armando Martinez (D-Weslaco ) had a POO (Point of Order) (Thank you Texas SD7 Senator Dan Patrick for the great and fitting acronym) on the House floor that put a halt to SB. 14 because of a single word in the bill. The word “business” is used in a sentence in the bill, but was not put in the bill summery.
The House rules say that the content of a bill must be the same as found in the bill analysis. In this case, there was a discrepancy in wording between “six business days” in the bill analysis while the bill itself says “six days” to provide a photo I. D. after casting a provisional ballot.
I was in Austin yesterday and Rep Gary Elkins told me that the bill would be back up for debate on Wednesday March 23rd.
The Texas Republican Party chaired by Steve Munisteri said that SB 14 will be back up for debate today, March 23rd, at approximately 10:30am and our Republican Elected officials lead by Patricia Harless will debate the bill and vote on it.
