Rolling The Dice With Constitutional Conventions

The current Texas State Senate passed a resolution to consider making application for a Constitutional Convention for the purpose of amending the United States Constitution. The stated purpose would be to create a Balanced Budget Amendment making balancing the Federal budget mandatory. In that context, I recently I had the opportunity to briefly speak to State Representative Gary Elkins and State Senator Dan Patrick regarding my concerns about a Constitutional Convention (or even threatening to have one). I applaud the motivation for which John Cornyn has suggested that each State consider making application for one. I greatly respect the very thoughtful and sincere reasons articulated by both Gary Elkins and Dan Patrick, for considering the possibility of having one if Congress fails to balance the budget. However, I believe that well intentioned as it is, we should approach the subject of balancing the budget in a different manner

Securing Our US Border Is About Security, Not Racism

I am getting a little sick hearing the flat out lies we are told about Republicans and protecting our US borders. Every nation has the right, and the obligation, to protect its borders. One argument we hear often is that we need the workers.

The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics this month says that we have 8.9% unemployment. “The number of unemployed persons (13.7 million) and the unemployment rate (8.9 percent) changed little in February. “ 8.9% is only the number of those who the tax payers are supporting through unemployment benefits. It does not count those who are not getting anything at all. So ask yourself do we really need the workers?

Democrats POO On The Texas House Floor

On Monday March 21st the elected Republicans that serve “we the people” in Austin started the debate on SB 14 , the Voter ID bill. As we all know, Voter ID is a must for all of us in Texas if we are going to keep the integrity of our voting system.

The Anti-Integrity Democrats led by Rep. Armando Martinez (D-Weslaco ) had a POO (Point of Order) (Thank you Texas SD7 Senator Dan Patrick for the great and fitting acronym) on the House floor that put a halt to SB. 14 because of a single word in the bill. The word “business” is used in a sentence in the bill, but was not put in the bill summery.

The House rules say that the content of a bill must be the same as found in the bill analysis. In this case, there was a discrepancy in wording between “six business days”

Nobel Peace Prize Winner Now Leading Three Wars Simultaneously

While campaigning in late 2007, reporter Charlie Savage quizzed the presidential candidates on their views of executive power. Savage asked if the president had the power, without congressional approval, to bomb a country that didn’t represent an imminent threat to the US, Obama answered:

The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.

That was then. This is now. Obama has now pulled our nation into a third war that was quickly planned and has murky objectives.

This move toward war has already earned Obama a fair amount of backlash from the left and the right.

Anti-Integrity Democrats Stop Texas Voter ID Bill Due To One Word Being Missed

When SB 14 (Voter I. D. bill) was taken up on the floor of the House today, a point of order occurred; and the bill had to be sent back to the Select Committee on Voter I. D. and Voter Fraud. The point of order was raised by Rep. Armando Martinez (D-Weslaco) and upheld by House Speaker Joe Straus (R-San Antonio.) The House rules say that the content of a bill must be the same as found in the bill analysis. In this case, there was a discrepancy in wording between “six business days” in the bill analysis while the bill itself says “six days” to provide a photo I. D. after casting a provisional ballot.

As I understand it at this hour of 9:35 P. M., SB 14 has already gone back to committee (Select Committee on Voter I. D. and Voter Fraud) and is now waiting to be rescheduled by the Calendars Committee
