In a political environment where many Republicans are trying to sound as much like Democrats as possible, Rick Perry offers a fresh perspective. For those of you who are old enough to remember those dark Jimmy Carter days of long gas lines, astronomic interest rates, and down-in-the-dumps view of the United States, his recent RLC speech is reminiscent of the refreshing words that Ronald Reagan brought to us so long ago
“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.”
Speaking to the Republican National Convention in 1984, Ronald Reagan made the following statement about the circumstances in the United States when he was first elected:
“But worst of all, Americans were losing the confidence and optimism about the future that has made us unique in the world. Parents were beginning to doubt that their children would have the better life that has been the dream of every American generation.
We can all be proud that pessimism is ended. America is coming back and is more confident than ever about the future. Tonight, we thank the citizens of the United States whose faith and unwillingness to give up on themselves or this country saved us all.”
Friends, Rick Perry’s message, more than that of any of those who have recently told us of their plans to run for the presidency of the United States, is full of hope, and reminds us of those things that as a nation we need to do in order to bring our country back to greatness once more.
Focusing on faith, family, and freedom, Rick’s message is a blueprint of how, under his leadership, the United States would enjoy the relative prosperity that we in Texas have enjoyed during his tenure as governor.
Reminding the nation of the need to protect the most innocent among us, reducing the role of government in our lives, creating an environment where all can once more dare to dream the American dream unhindered by over-reaching governmental regulation, and helping us to see that no matter what we do, we can never satisfy or reconcile conservative views with those of the liberal left, and reminding where the left has taken our nation, are all well-made points the Governor shared with the audience at the Republican Leadership conference.
