The Patriot Statesman was recently contacted by Pamela Brubaker, a Ph.D. student from Penn State University, seeking assistance with her dissertation related to online communication messages (e.g., blogs, online news stories, etc.) about marriage – specifically legalizing or not legalizing same-sex marriage.

Purpose of the Study: The purpose of this research is to understand your perceptions of online communication messages about legalizing same-sex marriage within in the United States.
Research Procedures: This study consists of three sections:
First, you will be asked to answer a number of survey questions on your opinion about the media and how states are defining marriage.
Second, you will be asked to read some information about legalizing same-sex marriage.
Third, you will be asked to provide your opinion about what you read.
Statement of Confidentiality: Your participation in this research is confidential. The survey does not ask for any information that would identify who the responses belong to. In the event of any publication or presentation resulting from the research, no personally identifiable information will be shared because your name is in no way linked to your responses. The data will be stored and secured in password protected files and accessed only by the researcher.
Who is Conducting this Research? This research is being conducted as part of a doctoral dissertation at The Pennsylvania State University.
