Until now, I thought it impossible for the U.S. military to further misjudge Major Hasan’s 2009 Fort Hood massacre. However – after learning the Department of Defense seeks to classify killing 13 and wounding 29 “as workplace violence” – it’s apparent political correctness now trumps reason within DOD.
Even a casual reading of the U.S. Constitution reveals a reasonable case for charging the murderous major with treason but the Obama administration, most Democrats and too many Republicans lack the intestinal fortitude to try Hasan for that crime. Although the major committed the worst shooting to take place on a U.S. military base – as workplace violence – it will be replaced by the 2007 rampage at Virginia Tech.
If the DOD persists with its erroneous classification – and U.S. citizens allow it to prevail – it will be time to revisit 9/11 currently labeled “the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil”. However, if Major Hasan is guilty only of “workplace violence”, then 9/11 should be reclassified as “three airplane crashes due to pilots’ error” thereby enabling Homeland Security to use its preferred term “human-caused incidents”. That would also erase any controversy about constructing a mosque at what was mistakenly labeled “ground zero” rather than the location of two unfortunate plane crashes into office towers.
