This week the New Black Panthers circulated a “wanted dead or alive” poster and placed a $10,000 bounty on the head of George Zimmerman after the fatal shooting of black Florida teen Trayvon Martin, the citizen journalism site Allvoices.com reported.
George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch leader of hispanic descent, fatally shot Trayvon Martin, a black teenager, after Zimmerman had reported him to the police as being a “suspicious person” in his neighborhood.
Although the police and DA appear to be ruling the shooting as self defense, and neighbors witnessed Trayvon Martin attacking Zimmerman, racial group leaders from the New Black Panthers have put a price on Zimmerman’s head – dead or alive.
To make matters even worse, Spike Lee decided it was appropriate to Tweet Mr Zimmerman’s home address out to thousands of people. Then Barack Obama chose sides prematurely once again by comparing Trayvon to the son he never had.
Can we say with certainty that Zimmerman is guilty of murder and that Trayvon was completely innocent? Did Zimmerman make the right decision to protect himself? I don’t any of us have all of the facts in this case and we can only go by what the local police and DA discover during their investigation, and to this point, they’ve decided that Zimmerman was acting in self defense.
I do know one thing though – When President Obama stops by the liquor store to pick up some fruit and vegetables, he’d better get a 12-pack while he’s there, because this is going to take one heck of a beer summit to smooth over.
