In today’s high-speed Internet world, the ability to communicate to the masses does not require a network news channel. The Internet has helped expose some secrets that powerful individuals and governments would have gone to great lengths to keep hidden. Sir Winston Churchill is credited with saying “A lie will travel around the world before the truth gets its boots on.”
Today your neighbor just might be a blogger. A local blogger here in Houston focuses on saving consumers money by identifying store sales and directing them to coupons. She is spotlighted on a local morning television show and helps consumers save thousands of dollars. This most would agree. is a good thing.
But I am going to focus on those bloggers who spend their time and energy in the political arena. It has long been said that those who can, do, and those who can’t, teach. But in this case those who can’t use their blogs to bully! Few of those bullies would dare run for an elected office because they could never withstand the type of ‘cyber rubbish” that they throw out to be thrown back at them. Most of them will never know the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
There are few things tougher than offering up oneself to run for political office. The strains on your time, family and emotional well-being are difficult to explain but freedom is not free! Bullying has been going on for years. When we hear about it in our schools we all want to act, but for some reason when it is done by “cyber bullies” it seems less wrong.
Our Constitution and those rights guaranteed because of it are being attacked every day. I believe first in Jesus Christ and then in our Constitution. Our first amendment rights to free speech must be upheld even for those who abuse it. Most journalists would agree that they must maintain credibility in order to be trusted. So many bloggers like to report their version of the truth. Well, there are not versions of the truth, either it’s true or it’s not! One blogger enjoys writing about fiscal conservatism but always fails to report on his own personal financial problems, which led him to bankruptcy. Many of these blogs have conservative sounding titles trying their best to give themselves something that most are fundamentally lacking and that is to push their opinions because I have personally found that, to some, the truth does not matter!
To all of you bloggers, if you want some credibility, be honest and don’t abuse the right that so many died for you to enjoy!
God bless American and keep your protecting hand upon us
